Teddy the Paladin

"To determine your fate is up to the gods, but to send you to them, that is up to me" -Teddy

Teddy Paladin

Loyal, honorable, and strong. These are the words used to describe Teddy: a half-orc paladin of Helm. Teddy has traveled many places and has made many acquaintances. Some people question his wisdom but that does not bother Teddy.   Teddy's life was always about helping and protecting the innocent. From his days as a Paladin of Helm to his final moments, he was willing to put his well being at risk if it meant saving one or many lives. He traveled often to places around the world with a number of companions.

Personal history

Teddy was the product of his orc mother and human father. When his mother's tribe discovered her forsaken child and her forbidden love, she and Teddy were exiled and they traveled with Teddy's father as nomads. As Teddy aged, his father taught him how to act in society while his mother taught him how to smith and to fight. As an adolescent, Teddy forged his first of few Halberds - what would eventually become his weapon of choice. One day, he witnessed his parents risk their lives to save a group of travelers from bandits. When he asked his father why they did that, he said "See that weapon of yours? It has no purpose unless you are willing to take action and fight for something. What that something may be is up to you." Teddy then decided what he wanted to fight for - protecting those in need...   When he became an adult, Teddy searched for a job that would suit his skill set. He found one with the Sentinels: a private security organization that took jobs from the region. Teddy took his job seriously and over the course of about 6 years, he made quite a name for himself among the troop. During his service in the organization, he made acquaintances with two individuals - Kaz and Dec whom he often worked with. When the two left the organization, they informed Teddy about the worshipers of Helm and thought that he would take an interest. Soon after, Teddy left the Sentinels and traveled to the city of Greybrook to be indoctrinated into the worshipers of Helm.   Through a rigorous training process of both the body and the mind, Teddy became a Paladin, sworn to the oath of devotion: to never lie or steal, to fight with honor, and to protect his allies. Over the next 7 years, Teddy became a familiar and welcoming friend among the many Paladins of Helm. One of his most trusted friends was Kelara, a small halfling only a third of Teddy's height but with the determination of many. She accompanied Teddy on many of his journies in the latter half of his paladin career and the two nearly developed romantic feelings for each other...   Unfortunately, Teddy's fortune was not to last. On a fateful day, a horde of demons attacked Greybrook seemingly out of nothing. The Paladins defended their city as best as they could, but they were outmatched. Teddy fought bravest of all but it wasn't enough. Seeing his fellow paladins fall broke him. He tried to save as many as he could but eventually, his magic was exhausted. He prayed to Helm to give him the strength to save everyone, but there was no answer. He went to each of his companions who were beyond saving and told them a lie. "You will be okay." said Teddy, "Everything will be fine." With each word of that sentence, Teddy felt his holy symbol crack and break as he defied his oath, but he did what he thought had to be done. One of the souls who he could not save was his companion, Kelara. He held her close as the life escaped her body, leaving only Teddy and a few survivors in the end.   As punishment for breaking his oath, Teddy could no longer speak. When he sought redemption for his failure, Helm responded by telling him that he must complete a task to get back his voice and Helm's blessing. Teddy's task seemed curious at the time; he had to help someone save the world. Unfortunately, due to Teddy's lack of voice, he could not object. Thus, he started his journey to help save the world.   Teddy built up his strength over the next 25 years. He ventured into the most unforgiving lands and slew some of the most terrifying creatures the land has known. He encountered a group of forsaken paladins known as the Oathbreakers who were also on the path of redemption and together, they helped people and fought troublesome beasts. However, for Teddy, this did nothing to earn his freedom.   Nearly upon giving up, Teddy was about to leave Alvaria, the land of elves, when he encountered a group of humans (and an elf) being attacked by the local army. Deciding to intervene, Teddy assisted the group in their escape and was encouraged to join their travels. The group introduced themselves as a diplomatic envoy from the Veridian Empire and the team consisted of a few individuals including Paladin Wes, Knight Kristoph, a fighter named Drew, and an elvish ranger named Kate. Teddy followed Drew and Kate in their cause to stop the Veridian Dragon incursion. They encountered one of these dragons shortly after and eventually managed to defeat it. After the dragon was slain, Teddy felt a surge of strength and his voice had returned; he had redeemed himself!   Drew, Kate, Teddy, and eventually a tiefling druid named Lotus, made it their mission to stop the dragon incursion, which they discovered was due to the Dark Lord Abbadon, a terrifying fiend sworn on dominating the material plane. The four journeyed far and into Abbadon's dimension, never to be heard from again. The dragons absconded soon after; it appears that the four were successful on their quest, though the true outcome may never be known...
