Myth'thelyn Settlement in Verdun | World Anvil

Myth'thelyn

The ancient city of Myth'thelyn is the oldest settlement on Verdun that is still inhabited. Founded by Ithyriel, it has been inhabited by the Myth'iro elves since the Age of Abandonment nearly 8,600 years ago. It guards the two Spellstones and has been hidden from the rest of world through powerful magic for over a thousand years.

History

At the onset of the Age of Abandonment, the only mortal inhabitants of the Island of the Moon were elves and humans. The two races fought constantly over resources, but the elves managed to organize far quicker than their opponents and hunted the humans on the island to extinction. Led by a great warrior queen, Ithyriel, the elven tribes on the island were united as the Myth'iro and built the city of Myth'thelyn.

Spellstone Discovery

Upon its construction, Ithyriel began harvesting the land for resources and discovered a natural source of the precious metal, Mithril. Ithyriel ordered her people to harvest the metal had complex mining operations set up. As they descended deeper into the earth mining mythril, some workers broke into an ancient chamber of unknown origin. Ithyriel took a small party of elite soldiers with her to explore the chambers where she eventually found the Spellstone of Myth'thelyn. When she grasped the stone, the stone's power flowed through her and she became the first demi-god, imbued with great magical power. She passed these new found abilities on to her followers, who then took those powers and founded new kingdoms for themselves and sharing their knowledge with the other races they encountered along the way.

Exile

After the Spelldeath devestated the planet, Myth'thelyn was the only place left unaffected. Ithyriel used the Spellstone of Myth'thelyn to protect the kingdom from the anti-magic effects of the Spelldeath. Disgusted by the misuse of the artifact and fearful that they could ever fall into the wrong hands again, Ithyriel cast a powerful spell over the island the keep it protected and hidden from outsiders. To this day, the only evidence that Myth'thelyn ever existed and still exists is due to the rare envoys that may be sent to the mainlands for various reasons.
