Chausticlorinus

For decades the name Chausticlorinus faded into a whispered rumor among fey and elf, druid and ranger. Once the bane of the Welkwood and the shadowed glens of Celene’s frontier, the green dragon vanished after a brutal battle… until now. Scarred but alive, she has emerged again—this time in the eastern Gnarley Forest. In her wake comes fear, subtle corruption, and the growing sense that something ancient and malevolent stirs beneath the forest’s boughs.

In the deepest, darkest, and most whimsical part of an ancient forest, a magnificent green dragon named Chausticlorinus coils through the undergrowth like a living river of emerald. Her sleek, serpentine body is nearly sixty feet long, covered in shimmering scales of forest green, olive, and deep jade. Her regal neck curves with eerie grace, and her fangs are delicate and understated, lending her a predatory beauty. Along her left flank, old burn scars glisten, and a long pale scar crosses her underbelly — battle wounds from ancient elven magic. Her eyes, bright with cunning and intelligence, burn green with yellow fire, filled with malice and manipulation. She lurks among towering mossy trees and glowing mushrooms, the canopy casting long shadows. The atmosphere is lush, eerie, and enchanted, evoking ancient danger.

Beauty Wreathed in Malice

Chausticlorinus is a magnificent yet menacing creature. Nearly sixty feet in length, her form flows like a river of living emerald through the woods. Her scales shimmer between forest green, olive, and deep jade, and her graceful serpentine neck and delicate fangs give her an eerily regal presence. But even her beauty bears the mark of old wounds: her left flank glistens with burn scars, and a long pale scar mars her underbelly, relics of her near demise at the hands of elven warriors.

Her eyes are twin lanterns of cunning—green laced with yellow fire, burning with the cold confidence of a master manipulator.

“She slithers through dreams and roots alike. Beware the whisper in the wind.” — Annika Silverwood

Chausticlorinus' origins lie deep within the overgrown Suss Forest, but she rose to prominence in the northern central Welkwood, weaving webs of fear among the Sylvan Elves of Celene. For nearly a century, she haunted the forest's edge, twisting clans against one another, sowing discord, and using both sorcery and subterfuge to grow her power.

She was once admired by many lesser wyrms—suitors twisted to pawns, their ambitions played against one another. Few green dragons matched her gift for deceit and seduction, and none dared challenge her domain outright.

The Fall and Flight

Her reign ended in blood. Freindilin Weirkein, an elven champion of Celene, led the Company of the Moonlit Arrow in a daring assault on her lair. Though victorious, they paid dearly—Freindilin died in her grasp as she fled north, grievously wounded.

For thirty years, she vanished into legend… until the rangers of the Gnarley Forest began whispering of a shadow on the wind.

  • Rose to power in the Welkwood, a menace to Celene’s fey borderlands
  • Known for corrupting and manipulating elf and gnome communities
  • Nearly slain by Freindilin Weirkein and the Company of the Moonlit Arrow
  • Fled north with mortal wounds—now healed, her influence returns
“I burned her once, but she returns. We will need more than fire this time.” — High Druid Laric

Current Domain and Presence

The Gnarley Verge: Her New Throne

Now awakened, Chausticlorinus has claimed a stretch of the eastern Gnarley Forest, near where Celene’s border kisses the wilds. Her lair is rumored to lie near a corrupted druidic glade, cloaked in glamours and guarded by charmed beasts and twisted treants. The Lair of Chaustichlorinus

She exerts her influence through dreams, illusions, and whispered promises, unraveling the fragile alliances between fey, woodsmen, elves, and rangers.

  • Dwells in a hidden lair in the eastern Gnarley Verge
  • Manipulates mortals via charm, suggestion, and illusion
  • Seeks revenge against the elves of Celene and expansion of her domain
  • Rumors abound of her consorting with cults and monstrous tribes

Relationships with Factions

In the tangled webs of forest and ambition, few names elicit as much grinding tension as Chausticlorinus. To the Gnarley Rangers, she is a phantom reborn—a venomous shadow stretching across old maps thought safe. Belgin, ever the diplomat, counsels patience and politics, but the younger, blood-bright Annika Silverwood sharpens arrows in the dark, already missing friends swallowed by trees. Barda Tharrow does not curse her aloud, but her silence weighs heavier than an oath. The druids—those moss-bound watchers—feel her like a rot beneath bark. Naimur has seen her kind before, knows that a single serpent can twist a whole forest's fate. Meanwhile, the elves of Celene, ever proud and distant, sniff at old blood and whisper names like Weirkein as both curse and prayer. But queens do not stir for phantoms, and so the green serpent coils in the quiet, watching her enemies squabble like birds over bones.

The Gnarley Rangers

The Rangers view her return as a dire omen. Barda Tharrow dispatched scouts who never returned, and Annika Silverwood is actively recruiting new allies to resist her. Belgin has warned against rash action, fearing the dragon’s cunning.

  • Gnarley Ranger Belgin advocates caution; Annika seeks bold retaliation
  • Gnarley Ranger Barda Tharrow mourns lost rangers in Riverland
  • Ranger Knight Parsimmon Turmercan coordinates diplomatic alerts to Verbobonc and Celene
Druids of the Gnarley Forest

The Old Faith trembles at her return. Naimur, the Great Druid, remembers her perfidy all too well. He warns that she may be nursing ambitions beyond her lair—perhaps seeking a node of ancient elemental or planar power.

  • Great Druid Naimur is alarmed by her return
  • Archdruid Holdefer Paravis has petitioned druids from Zendrelda to watch the ley lines
  • High Druids Maiya Dewshine and Laric have seen signs of faerie corruption near her domain
“She makes a game of hearts and minds, and she is always three moves ahead.” — Naimur, Great Druid
The Elves of the Gnarley Forest

The wounds she dealt to Celene are not forgotten. Clan Sherendyl and Clan Enlanefel have placed scouts in the borderlands, but Queen Yolande’s isolationist policies prevent open retaliation. The Fey Court of the Moon Glade watches, waiting for proof before breaking neutrality.

  • Celene refuses to act overtly due to isolationist policy
  • Elven scouts are quietly patrolling her former and current haunts
  • The name “Chausticlorinus” is spoken with bitterness among the elven elders

Tactics and Personality

Chausticlorinus is more puppetmaster than predator. She avoids direct confrontation unless she controls the terms, preferring to create pawns, manipulate leaders, and let her enemies destroy each other.

She takes glee in fear, doubt, and corruption, and revels in turning allies against one another. She is a conversationalist, enjoying parley as a trap and feigned vulnerability as a weapon.

  • Master manipulator and spellcaster
  • Uses suggestion, dream invasion, and poison in equal measure
  • Employs charmed agents and corrupted fey to further her ends
  • Disdains brute force; uses overwhelming force only when victory is assured

Current Goals and Threat Level

  • Consolidation of Territory – She is reinforcing her new domain, corrupting local beasts and spirits, and watching for ranger patrols.
  • Vengeance Against Celene – She hungers to break the elves’ spirit and reclaim her lost prestige.
  • Acquisition of Ancient Power – Rumors suggest she seeks a hidden node—an ancient planar touchstone or mythal fragment within the Gnarley’s depths.
  • Threat Level: Dire – The Gnarley Rangers, Druids, and Elves have placed Chausticlorinus at the highest priority for containment or elimination.
