The Kalemne
Originally conceived of and commissioned by Emperor Artorius himself, the Kalemne is the largest and most famous arena in the
The Artorian Empire
. It is a massive structure of stone and marble that can seat over 100,000 spectators. It is located in the heart of the capital city of
Artoria
and is the center of entertainment and gladiatorial combat. The Kalemne is renowned throughout the land as the place where the greatest warriors and gladiators come to prove their mettle in fierce battles and nail-biting races.
The arena is circular in shape with towering columns and arches surrounding the main fighting area. The sand-covered floor is where gladiatorial fights and chariot races take place, however the whole basin of the arena can be converted to hold enough water to allow for small naval battles with several ships and thousands of rowers. The stands are tiered and built in such a way that every seat has a clear view of the action, no matter where it takes place. Only the best gladiators, combatants, charioteers, naval commanders, and entertainers perform at the Kalemne, having cut their teeth in the field or, more often, at one of the many developmental arenas around Artoria such as the Amphitheater of Aspirants .
The Kalemne is run by a group of wealthy patrons who are known as the Masters of the Kalemne. They are responsible for the management of the arena, the hiring of gladiators and charioteers, and the planning of the events. The current head of the Masters is a tiefling named Lyra Vitsk who is known for her cunning and strategic mind. She is often seen in the front row of the stands, observing the battles and making notes on the strengths and weaknesses of the competitors. The other notable masters are Xantheus Thunderfist, Draxis Cato, Lucius Decimus, and Colette Antigone.
Xantheus, a former gladiator himself, is a ruthless and cunning minotaur who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Kalemne. He oversees the selection of gladiators and charioteers, manages the finances of the arena, and ensures that all events are conducted according to the rules and regulations set forth by the Imperial Senate.
Draxis, a former naval captain, is responsible for the organization and management of the naval battles that take place in the Kalemne. He is a brilliant tactician and has a deep understanding of naval combat, making him a valuable asset to the Kalemne.
Lucius, like many current Masters, is a former participant of the games. He got his start working the stables before having a legendary career as a charioteer. His seemingly boundless skill on the track combined with his reputation for honor and forthrightness and, moreover, is sincere love and care for the horses eventually landed him the appointment to Master of Stables.
Colette is a wealthy and powerful businesswoman and the primary sponsor of the Kalemne. She is a keen observer of the gladiatorial games and is always looking for new and exciting ways to make the Kalemne the premier destination for spectators and participants alike.
The Kalemne is a symbol of the Artorian Empire and its citizens are proud of the great feats of bravery and skill that take place within its walls. It is a place where legends are made, where new stars rise and old ones fall, and where the citizens of Artoria come together to celebrate their bravery and strength.

Local Legend
In the early days of the Artorian Empire, The Kalemne was already the premier venue for gladiatorial combat, with battles drawing spectators from across the land. The most legendary of these battles was between two gladiators, Chilon and Lysander. Chilon was a fierce and powerful fighter, known for his brute strength and unyielding determination. He had won countless battles in the arena, earning him the nickname "the Hammer of the Gods." Lysander, on the other hand, was a skilled tactician and strategist. He had a wiry frame, with quick reflexes and lightning-fast strikes. He was known as "the Shadow Blade" for his ability to move in and out of combat unseen. When the two met in the arena, the crowd was electrified. Chilon charged at Lysander with all his might, swinging his massive hammer in a wide arc. But Lysander was too quick, ducking and weaving out of the way of each blow. As the fight wore on, the two combatants began to tire. Chilon's swings became slower and less powerful, while Lysander began to show signs of wear from the barrage of blows he had been forced to dodge. But just as it seemed the battle would be over, Lysander saw an opening. He slipped past Chilon's guard and drove his blade deep into the Hammer's chest. The crowd fell silent as Chilon stumbled and fell to the ground, his lifeblood spilling out onto the sand. Lysander emerged victorious, hailed as a hero of the arena. The combat had so entertained not just the crowd but the senate and Emperor himself that Chilon was revived by clerics of Iroas and, along with Lysander, became the first Imortus, a group of ultra-elite combatants, granted unlimited access to the Kalemne and the ability to request revival prior to combat if the day does not go their way. The legend of the battle between Chilon and Lysander lives on to this day, with many aspiring gladiators striving to live up to the feats of those two warriors. And in The Kalemne, the spirit of combat and competition lives on, with each new generation of fighters seeking to make their mark in the annals of history.
