It is Rumored that The gnomish civilization was created out of Gemstones that lay beneath the mountains to the east of the Veldt. Onyx for the Deep Gnomes, Emeralds for the Forest Gnomes, Fire Opal for the Desert Gnomes, and Diamonds for the Rock Gnomes. Their first several centuries were tough. At their inception, they were mostly enslaved by Kobolds who found the Gemstones beautiful. and wanted to keep the remainder to themselves thinking they were the potential soul stones of future gnomish folk. The Gnomes also had a similar belief in this. Their enslavement lasted a little longer than a millennia.

Omens Canyon
Population Migration / Travelin 1253 the Gnomes Creator had enough and struck down their captors. The destruction brought down several mountains and created what the Gnomes refer to as Omens Canyon. They see it as a Warning to those who want to imprison their kind. By the Grace of their creator, each of the various Gnomish Jewels set out on their own paths throughout the continent. The Deep Gnomes Headed towards the Underdark to explore their depts. The Rock Gnomes spread out in multiple directions. The Forest Gnomes Went into seclusion. They stuck together and felt a pull toward the South East. The Desert Gnomes Headed West. A desert didn't exist there, but they felt a pull nonetheless.

Enslavement of the Desert Gnomes
Life, Trauma/ LossWhen the City of Vol Was established the Wizards required people to help build and construct their building. They subjugated the Gnomes having them serve the new Vol empire. The Humans were the ones to establish this. The Yuan-Ti and the Humans did not see eye to eye on this - the Yuan-Ti mostly kept their opinions to themselves - and over the centuries they found that the humans had their eyes and hands full of other things. Over the more recent times, the Yuan-Ti have helped migrate the Desert Gnomes elsewhere and emancipated them.
