King Crystalcrests
King Crystalcrests have long been thought extinct but were recently rediscovered. They are one of the largest known birds on Vasea and are seen by some as sacred.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The King Crystalcrest on average stands at 3.5 feet tall with a wingspan of 6.5 feet. They have large claws and serated beaks as they are birds of prey, and their feathers are soft those crystaline in appearance though they do turn fully crystaline when lost.
Biological Traits
Females are larger than males by several inches at the minimum and weight almost twice as much, they also tend to have warmer color schemes than males.
Ecology and Habitats
They are found in the forest of Niafothra, a magically saturated forest that many think may have helped them to survive and also led to their evolution in the first place. They make their homes in the brightly colored trees which offer them a level of camaflouge.
Dietary Needs and Habits
They are Birds of Prey that feed on the small creatures of the forests such as squirles and rabbits.

Geographic Origin and Distribution
They are pretty much entirely found within the Niafothra forest, in fact they haven't been documented naturally any where else. Within the forest though they are spread across the entire forest.
Average Intelligence
They have demonstrated a rather high intelligence and retention of information, seemingly able to memorize faces and voices and pass along the information to others.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
It is unknown if it is an extrasensory ability or not but the song of the King Crystalcrest is known to be very calming and relaxing. Something that is likely very helpful for evading those who would hunt them or when hunting themselves as it has been observed to work on their prey as well.

The small number of them that has been found has led to them being classified as Endangered and marked as a protected species.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
King Crystalcrests tend towards gradient colorations. Females tend to be reds, oranges, purples, and pinks in coloration. Males tend to more Greens, blues, whites, and deeper purples.
