Little and less is known about the nature of the rift itself, and what is known is told only in the last fragmentary testaments of the unfortunate few who have made it there intact. As far as can be divined from the final rantings of so many adventurers, the Rift is an enormous valley at what is assumed to be the center of the continent of Varad. Its origin is unknown, but its malign influence warps the fabric of reality for hundreds of miles around it. Theories on the formation of this void are as myriad as the scholars who study it, and as incomplete as the skeletons that litter the wastes in the approach. One thing is known for certain: The Rift is dangerous, and should be avoided by anyone who values their lives.
