Whisperscorn
"It doesn't hunt. It waits for you to break."
Overview
Whisperscorns are rare, twisted entities born not from violence—but from resonance starvation and emotional consumption. Towering, skeletal, and forever starving, they are said to form in places where soul frequencies are absent or echo only loss, grief, and abandonment.
Only a handful have been confirmed to exist, and they are spoken of in the same fearful breath as Hollowtones —perhaps even rarer.
Traits & Behavior
- Appearance:
Tall, elongated figures with gnarled limbs and hollow, obsidian-black ribs that pulse with dim soul flickers. Their heads are antlered, mask-like, or completely faceless. The air around them carries no sound, even when they move. - Resonance Signature:
Whisperscorns emit no Soul Frequency—a true void. Their presence silences nearby resonance, causing Tonebearers, beasts, and even crystals to fall unnaturally still. - Movement & Behavior:
They move slowly, often with limbs too long and too jagged to be natural—until provoked or drawn in, at which point they become horrifyingly fast, driven by resonance hunger.
Whisperscorns do not roam randomly—they are drawn to those who are emotionally hollow, disconnected, or spiritually fractured.
Attraction Conditions
They cannot be found easily, and will never appear in harmonized, vibrant places. Instead, they manifest in:
- Abandoned villages steeped in grief
- Forests where soul rituals were broken or betrayed
- Places where resonance is rejected, such as by those who sever their connection to their own frequency
More dangerously, they may be pulled toward:
- Individuals who are intentionally repressing or rejecting their soul
- Fractured who are in the process of losing control
Soul Effect
When a Whisperscorn approaches, the victim may experience:
- Cold silence; even inner resonance becomes dull or hollow
- Hallucinations of people or emotions they’ve lost
- A compulsion to remain still—as if any movement would cause the creature to notice
If attacked or if its "prey" resists healing or harmonization, the Whisperscorn tears away fragments of the soul, leaving victims emotionally numb, magically severed—or, in worst cases, permanently broken into Hollowtones.
Lore & Cultural Belief
- Some believe Whisperscorns are what happens when resonance dies but the will survives.
- Others claim they are guardians of silence, punishing those who betray their own frequency.
- A rare few see them as tests sent by the World Chord itself—either survive and find your soul again, or vanish into dissonance.
They are almost never killed—only driven away by powerful harmonization rituals or deep soul restoration. Crystalbound are warned never to face one alone, as their dragon bond may suffer permanent damage from the silence.
