Isle of Irricam

The Isle of Irricam, also known as the Windy Isle, is an island far to the southeast of the Vanelle mainland. Both inhospitable and difficult to reach, it nonetheless has a small number of hardy inhabitants, with the majority residing in the village of Swept. The landscape of the island is sharp. Its mountains jut into the sky, cutting through the near-constant rain; what vegetation has managed to survive is crooked and bent by the tumultuous storms that rage for most of the year, making entry onto the island too difficult for all but the most experienced navigators. However, where there is shelter, people have put down roots and made their island their home. There are ample resources there for the taking for the... well, resourceful. The mountains are rich in ore, the waters are rich in fish and other seafood, and as many inhospitable places do, Irricam is the home of many a legend for the eager explorer. While the mammalian wildlife on the island is sparse, its mountainous coast is the ideal home to the many thousands of seabirds that flock there to mate and feed each season, providing an easy source of food for its human inhabitants, who both forage for the eggs and hunt the birds themselves for their meat. Both of these activities are perilous - the steep cliffs and sharp rocks along the coast have claimed the lives of many a hunter. Aside from Swept, the only notable structure on the island is a very tall and very old tower that is home to an order of Alchemists known as The Brotherhood of the Crucible. The tower is located on the southern face of the island's tallest mountain, on the opposite side to Swept and is, if possible, even more challenging to reach as the journey involves a precarious trek across the said mountain as well as the already hazardous journey across the The Verdant Ocean to first get to the island.
