Dee Fennec
Dee is a young woman born into poverty in Cirranne, currently residing in Pale. She is clever and very street-smart but has no formal education. Growing up, she learned to survive on the streets of Cirranne, stealing and taking odd jobs to help support her single mother and, later, her baby sister, Ilsa Fennec.
Due to dabbling in petty theft and panhandling from a young age, she fell in with certain elements of Ciranne's underworld as she grew older. Her mother never approved of these 'friends' or the way in which Dee had chosen to support her family, but they were always short of money and Dee's activities did help pay the bills. She eventually became a skilled and respected thief in circles that appreciate that sort of thing and was hired to work on larger and more lucrative, not to mention exciting, jobs. By the time she was 16, she had become one of the go-to contacts of Monk "The Rat King" Imbert.
She came to Pale at the age of 19, after her mother was killed by city guards who came to capture Ilsa after she started developing auguring abilities. However, she did not leave before trying to free her little sister and almost getting herself killed. Her failure brought her down hard, emotionally, and it meant she had to leave the city to avoid her own capture.
In Pale, she has found work at a local tavern in return for room and board. She still practices her skills as a thief and cat-burglar on a regular basis as she still plans to return to Cirranne to free Ilsa. She keeps telling herself the time isn't right yet, even though she's been holed up in Pale for almost two years and had plenty of chances to return. Whether because of grief at the potential loss of her sister, fear of failing again or just plain fear, her motivation is lacking. This has led to a feeling of uselessness and guilt over not acting, a feeling she tries her best to keep hidden beneath an easy-going facade.

Family Ties
Dee is an orphan. She was raised in poverty by her mother, now deceased, in the outskirts of Cirranne. She never knew her father or the father of her half-sister, Ilsa Fennec.
At 8 years old, Dee's half-sister is younger than her by 12 years. As mentioned, they don't share a father, but that never mattered as their mother, with some help from Dee, was able to raise them both. They got by, but rarely anything more than that. Dee has a very strong bond with her little sister and would do anything to protect her.
Dee's mother died in 1434 CE trying to prevent Ilsa from being taken away for Auguring. When this happened, Dee was away from their home. She came back to the absence of her sister, and her mother's lifeless body. She believes firmly that she could have prevented what happened, had she been home.
While she might not let on how much she cares about anything, she knows in her heart that her sister is still alive somewhere and would do anything to save her.
