Refract

It's not terribly difficult to master the basics of this spell, but to be able to fully utilize it in real situations takes months or even years of intense training. Should the caster lose focus for even a moment, their cover would be blown.

Effect

At the simplest level, this is an invisibility spell. It refracts light around the target object so that it becomes invisible to the naked eye. The spell becomes increasingly more difficult when the target or its surroundings are moving.

Side/Secondary Effects

This spell takes up all of the caster's concentration, so they're unable to cast any other spell while performing this one (with special exception to certain spells). If the spell is incomplete in any way, the invisibility won't fully take. The target may become opaque or perhaps only certain portions will turn invisible.

Discovery

Refract is a spell kept secret under penalty of torture and death. Only members of the Sybil Order have the knowledge and training necessary to cast it. Neither do they allow any outsider to know of the history of the spell, for it is one of the primary reasons that the Order is the most renowned assassins guild in all of Vana. That of course doesn't stop rumors from spreading...   Many speculate that it was the assassin who founded the Sybil Order who created the spell. Others say it was the most notorious member of the guild - known only as Markus. Yet others claim that the spell was created by one of the Arch Sages of the Eastern Tower, only to be stolen by the Sybil Order after assassinating him and all of his students. Whatever the truth is, there's only one way to find out. And it takes a certain kind of crazy to join an assassin order simply for the sake of learning a secret.

While this spell is useful against most creatures, any sage or spirit with the capability of seeing beyond the physical plane will be able to detect the objects hidden under this spell. Another abjurer would be able to cast sage sight, for example, and render this spell useless.
