The Ancient Dragons
The ancient dragons were a huge part of the Dual Worlds’ early life, and were thought to have come from another world.
It is unclear whether the modern dragons are descended from these, and it technically isn't clearly stated that they were dragons at all. It may have just been some kind of title.
Anyways, these people had nurtured the beginnings of life right alongside the gods. They built massive structures and signed their work with mysterious glyphs, then quietly nudged the up-and-coming sophonts in the right direction as they grew.
The structures are nowadays called the Ruinous Wonders, as most of them have been very worn down by the passage of time. The most in-shape wonder is by far The Compass, but even then it is very far gone from its prime.
This seemed to be going well, as out of the few written records from the time (and by few, that means like 3 separate documents that are all written in a long-lost language) there aren’t any mentions of hostility. The early sophonts seemed to welcome the dragons’ assistance, and around this time there also seemed to be another species of dragon forming.
This was likely the ancestor of modern dragons, but like mentioned before there isn’t anything that spoke of the relations between the two groups.
After that, mentions of the ancient dragons just faded away. We have only a few things left from them, with some loose architecture, broken tablets, and all of their teachings practically set in stone. They basically made sure that what society there was wouldn’t fall apart, but then just… vanished without a trace. Some think that they just got integrated into society until they were gone, but others think they just left again.
That mystery will probably remain unanswered for a long, long time.
