Rubius

Overall

Rubius is one of the eldest cities in Valyria, and has been speculated to have been around for at least 2,000 years. This age only seems to manifest in the architecture, with ancient buildings preserved almost perfectly from the day they were built.
Not that it is easy to tell which are older— almost every building in the city is built in the old style. The interiors, however, change a ton depending on whoever lives there. Two houses could look exactly the same, but their interiors may be a practical jungle of plants mixed with a blacksmith versus a room with all sharp corners and white everywhere you look. You’re basically rolling a 100 sided die each time you walk into a house.
This isn’t even covering how much the markets have changed over the years. What now stands as the main marketplace used to be just an empty street full of dust.
Some of the leaders of the city decided to patch it up and turn it into a place for all kind goods to be displayed and sold.
Overall, the city has a strange balance between never changing and huge, obvious alterations. This can be very jarring at first, but those who live in the city consider it a very interesting and fun part of living there.
It keeps the majority of its traditional aspects, yet still has change and flexibility to match the modern day.

Royalty and Ruling

Rubius is ruled by a semi-monarchy, with the royal family making decisions only with the help of their people.
Compared to other monarchies in Valyria, Rubius’s is usually seen as a lot more ‘casual’. Unless there is some kind of huge event, paparazzi and crowd amounts is almost nil.

Points of Interest

One of the major points of interest in Rubius is the Ruinous Wonder in the center of the whole city. This one is called The Compass, and apparently Rubius was just built around it.
This wonder is a source of much mystery, and there are even some unofficial festivals dedicated to trying to figure it out.

I love how everything adheres to traditional architecture but how interiors are more personalized. Seems quite fun!
