Hemic Settlement in Valus | World Anvil

Hemic

There's a reason the main road goes AROUND that town. The place is dark, and everyone that comes anywhere near it knows it. The land is swamp-like, and muddy with crimson clay, the sky is constantly overcast, and even the rain has an unclean feel to it. Most of the towns population is probably inbred, considering how few outsiders they get, and it's not like a traveler would want to stay there anyway. Yet... they're still there. After hundreds of years of decay, death, and stagnation... that cursed town just stays alive. Not unlike the undead, eh?   -Mad Mauden   The town of Hemic is small, only consisting of a few hundred people. It honestly wouldn't be notable enough to include on a map of the Ichraya Federation if it weren't for it's reputation. There are many old folktales of necromancers and cannibals living there, spread from the towns surrounding it. However, this nasty reputation is undeserved, as necromancy is usually only possible with years of study and expensive resources. In truth, the town is rather xenophobic, and that combined with no one going there has led to extreme isolation. However, what few recent, reliable accounts we have paint a rather different picture.
