Fortithan Universe creation myth

In the beginning, there was void. No light, no darkness, just the nothing. Out of that nothing, there was a blinding light and a deafening darkness, the first separation against the nothing, the Beginning of everything.

The Beginning of law and chaos

And as all opposites and separations must, they met. Light with its avatars of lumanessence and fire, the first stars, and the dark’s avatars of shattering cold and hard and dark, the first rock and stone. And the meeting was more than decisive.  The stars of fire and air baked the earthen and liquid bodies into fine dust and vapor to be swallowed.
However, what those stars swallowed turned on them.  The power made them rash and foolish.  They burned brighter and hotter, until they burned with such ferocity it tore them apart.  They spread their light once again into the darkness, creating new colors and truth, the first true complexity against the void.
The light and dark separated themselves again, as they always do. Stars reformed from the nebula and dust clouds, and shone their light in the void once more. But from the dust around these stars formed cold, dark planets and asteroids. These stand in a fragile peace, mediated and bound together in careful dances of circles and orbits.

The Birth of Goodness

The light of these new stars warmed the surfaces of their planets. Some were nearly melted by their stars, while others were only vaguely illuminated, and remained cold and dead. Yet there was one where the dark and the light maintained perfect balance on its surface, and the latent magic came to life. Magic, the result of mixing light and dark into brilliant colors and brand new things, is the essence of goodness and life. And magic gained a mind, naming itself named life.
Life indeed sprouted, growing fish and birds and plants, and all the land animals that walk and crawl and slither.  This life seemed to take on a mind of it’s own, slowly covering the empty and void with variation.
Everything falls apart eventually, and the void always reclaims what was once it’s own.  Lava bubbled through the ground, earthquakes and tsunamis destroyed the land, and great storms ground up what was left.  And yet, life is creative and always finds ways to use what is used against itself.  From the magma and fissioning earth, life made creatures of stone and fire, such as the first dwarves.  And from floods and storms, life crafted the first creatures of air and water, such as the first elves.

Humanity’s first steps

Yet life could not create true balance in any of these creatures. They could not move beyond their own ways. So, life took nothingness itself, the primordial stuff of void, and bled her own essence into it.  There, with perfect balance between light above and dark below, and born of the essence of good and evil, the first humans walked the surface of Valus.
They contained air in their lungs, earth in their flesh, water in their veins, and fire in their souls.  They were the balance of possibility life had seeked.  Even still, the void inside them meant they were mortal, and while they would truly live, they couldn’t live for very long.  So life gave them the gift she had given all her children: children of their own.  And so humans, along with the other races, created civilizations across Valus and many other worlds.

The First Deities

These races and creatures saw the world around them, and did not understand.  They asked question after question to each other, wondering the why’s and how’s of the world around them.  To sate the hunger of their minds, they imagined great powers to explain everything.  Life noticed this belief and it’s power, and hatched a plan.  She gave life to these beliefs, creating beings of power granted by faith.  She instructed these beings to serve and care for their charges, and to preside over their given truths.  These were the first real deities.
And so creation was finished, and life retired from her work.  Legend says she wanders the world, experiencing the wonders and creations of her children.  So go out and live, and you may one day have the chance to meet her.
