Awenmont (City)

The city of Awenmont is the capital of the Awenmont Empire. It was built long ago by the dragons, much of it carved into the cliffsides. After the fall of the dragons, the Drokken and Besurn rebuilt the damaged portions of the city, adding bridges to allow easier access to portions of the city that lie on opposite sides of the canyons.

Demographics

Besurn : 11,600 Drokken : 6,560 Dwarves: 1,540 Other Races: 1,700 (Gnomes, Halflings, Elfs)

Government

Like most other City-States, the local government in Awenmont has it's own local legal system. Where it differs from the other two large City-States is that it's government is made up of several councils, one for each tier of the city, with the exception of the lower district. Each council operates, for the most part, independently of the others, save for policies and projects that impact the entire city. In those few instances, the The Council of Bastilion also becomes involved in the matter, though typically it is only the High Councillor that is present.

Defences

Along the borders of the Open Tier, a wall and large palisade serve as the outermost protection (discounting the watchtowers and patrols that serve as an early warning system). Each district of the Open Tier has smaller, wooden walls that seperate them, with several gates that can be shut to slow down the advance of any invading army.

Geography

Awenmont is built across a large ravine. At the top of the canyon, the city has expanded out on both sides. The soil here is dry and unwieldy, which has forced the agricultural developments of Awenmont to be placed further inland where soil is more furtile.   Each tier of the city decends further down the ravine, most of those areas carved into the cliffside itself. Due to the large span of the canyon, bridges have bee built across the ravine, allowing quicker access to the opposite sides of the city. At the lowest tier, the Dock District, there are embankments on each side, allowing for some of the wealthier residents access to homes not enclosed in the mountainside. Several ferries run day and night to allow river crossing for wagons and heavy equipment that exceed the capacity of the upper tiers' bridges.

Natural Resources

In the immediate vicinity of the city, the only readily available resources are ore and minerals. The lower levels of the city cut deep into the mountains with an array of mines. Further away from the city, where the ground is more fertile, farmers have settled, growing and raising crop and livestock.
