Translation stones are uncommon magical items which are mostly found in libraries. The stones look like etched cubes. Holding the stone over a document creates the illusion of the text transforming into the language on the opposing face. The user slowly waves the stone over the text line by line to cause the text to change. The illusion is only temporary and fades after a few minutes of not being directly under the cube. At libraries, it's common to have multiple cubes with three faces in the local language and the other three faces are in different languages. The cubes themselves are traditionally made from Grekkle, a magical stone found in the mountain streams in eastern Kos. They have natural illusory properties such as appearing as smooth river stones while being very sharp and jagged. Some illusionists use Masar wood for the cubes which is plentiful in northern Kos and the southern foothills of Akea. The stones typically have a soft yellow glow when activated upon being picked up.
