Along the lowest point of the ocean floor, there's a deep fissure in the ground. It stretches for miles and the sandy plains around it appear devoid of life. Selene's palace lies at the bottom of the trench at the lowest possible spot in the ocean. The merfolk fear descending down there, and life that can survive at such extreme depths is beyond anyone's wildest imaginings. it's said that there's an entrance to the Heart of the World from Selene's palace. The ocean mother comes up to visit her subjects rather than asking them to go down to her. Also, the people on the surface know that her palace lies at the bottom of the ocean, but they have no real idea just how deep that goes.
