The Panavirek are a group of kobolds who have resisted living as slaves and servants for the dragonfolk. They reject the idea that they were discaded by the dragon god. As the firstborn species, they believe that it's unjust of the dragonfolk to enslave them and treat them as second class citizens. They mythologize the First Dragon War when a kobold servant accidentally soul bonded with a newly hatched dragon while his master was on a quest to become a dragon lord. The two returned, and the dragonfolk master attempted to claim that the dragon was soul bonded to him, but when the servant spoke up, the master struck him and killed him. Due to the soul bond, the dragon hatchling also died, and the master's treachery was exposed. After the war, the kobolds were heavily subjugated, but some managed to flee east and form their own settlements. However, as the dragonfolk continued to reclaim the rest of the island, some of the kobolds moved back west and lived in the slums of major cities such as Qunid. They are often left taking the worst jobs and can't gain access to the better parts of the city without sponsorship by a dragonfolk. In the modern era, many have fled north to Kos and live within the empire. There, they are treated as equal citizens, and some have even risen to positions of prominence. In Qunid and Kabat, they are still commonly viewed as being worse than servants. However, some young dragonfolk have tried to venture into the slums and have fallen in love with their culture and food. The Panavirek have a rich tradition of dances and songs. They also have their own demigods and martyrs that they worship. Like many draconids, they burn their dead on pyres. However, they only bury the body dressed in regular clothes. Notably, they don't burn their dead with their possessions. Clothes tend to be hand sewn, and most Panavirek know how to stitch. They have a particular style of pattern which adorns the collars and hems of their clothes. Painted furniture tends to be plain with just the design being in bright colors. Swirls and geometric shapes are very common.
