The Ortiridan Cipher is a way of encrypting messages using a cipher disk. There are three rings with the outer ring being fixed and the two inner rings rotating in opposite directions. It was invented by Jolena Ortiridan, a spy from Paleas. The cipher works by having the plaintext message use the outer fixed ring. The middle and lower rings can be adjusted independently to a key. Once the key is set, the middle ring is rotated to the left or right with the lower ring moving at the same increment in the opposite direction. The encrypted message is then written in both upper and lower case letters to indicate which ring is used. Newer versions of the Ortiridan Cipher allow the movable rings to change increment such as the lower ring moving two increments for every one increment of the middle ring.
