The dúr Aan is the largest ethnicity of centaurs. Their name translates to 'from home' and relates to their tradition of naming themselves after their birthplace. They don't have surnames like most people preferring to adopt a place name after their given name. The locality is considered part of the name and cannot be omitted. However, most people treat the locality as a surname, and urban centaurs can learn to accept being called only by their given name. Examples of the names include Vil dúr Aigg and Leia dúr Sigel. Another well known centaur is Boiinn dúr Volmer. They originated in the southeastern part of Kos, but a small group of them travelled north and settled in the grasslands just north of the desert nation Makut. They rely mostly on agriculture and aren't known for building settlements larger than towns. They primarily worship Menaan, the goddess of agriculture and have many holidays and celebrations around the cycle of planting and harvest.   The centaurs name their offspring when they first run. This typically takes a couple days after birth. The ceremony is held locally among family. Later, the foal is presented to the rest of the community. The tradition of naming after locality is strictly enforced. The greatest insult is to abandon one's home in name. No matter how far away a centaur travels, they will always retain their locality name. Since moving north, the centaurs who live in the northern part of Kos were conquered by the empire Otorveia. Since then, they have had to accept more people coming into their villages and towns. Their settlements aren't designed for humans. Also, they see horses as their cousins and fellow creations of Menaan. Domesticated horses are forbidden in their settlements, and traders who come with horses are turned away. Urban centaurs often have to live alongside horses, but it still makes them uncomfortable. They weren't known for warfare, and most physical fights could be solved through kicks and punches. The military force was largely reliant on a militia of farmers. They were fierce, and their size and speed gave them clear advantages, but they weren't a very warlike culture.   The dúr Aan are native to the plain in the SE part of Kos. They aren’t known for developing big cities, and they live in herds with a focus on agriculture. They value the herd and homeland. They have short one to two syllable names that include their home. A group of centaurs moved to the northern part of Kos, but their lands, Hre á Juln were conquered by the Empire and because the Reajun. The area is known for its fertile soil, but it’s one of the poorer parts of the empire. There’s a single city established by the empire with special accommodations for the centaur population. For the centaurs, the greatest offense is to reject one’s home. They worship Menaan the most and believe that they learned agriculture from her hooves plowing the newly created world. Centaurs also have a unique connection to other equines, and forbid tamed horses in their city. THey look upon it as the same as dragonfolk enslaving kobolds. They build …. That look more like large covered sheds than homes. They’re all single story. Centaurs wear clothes on the human half of their bodies. They are very communal and often rely on each other to complete grooming tasks. It’s a very intimate time and a way for centaurs to bond. The dúr Aan are the largest ethnic group of centaurs but there are others on the wide plains on Evirs.
