Personal history

"I am the hero of a forgotten chapter! Perhaps I am simply a man who was simply born in the wrong time! But you! You are my fate, MY destiny! We were supposed to combat the darkness together! Why can't you understand."
As the child born of a Human bard, and an Elf witch, Jarlath was seemingly raised on heroic deeds of ages long past, and the strange dealings and chaotic ways of the Faeries. His early childhood was filled with magic and wonder, which burned into his mind and fueled the imagination of the boy. The love of his parents was strong, for as they sung lullabies to him they would weave their precious child into the song. In the tapestries of these tales the child would perform all sorts of mighty feats, and would learn or teach valuable lessons to the other characters presented. His mother planned his life for him, arranging him to be married upon reaching adulthood.   As Jarlath grew into adulthood, he realized that the expectations behind the songs that his parents sung for him were far too much for him to fulfill. His believed disappointment towards his parents weighed heavily on him. Yet his pride would not allow him to truly understand his shortcomings, but rather he would focus on the failings of those close to him. So he never chose to challenge, nor improve himself. Unable to follow in the footsteps of his father, for the challenge of learning rhyme was far too difficult. Nor was he studious enough to study the arcane, attending schools as his mother had wished. His life became filled with half measures, boastful claims, and accusations. Seeking the comfort of others, he worked on making pacts and allies with suitable people, claiming to be as the child hero sung by his parents.   Reaching adulthood, the pacts that he had made with unsavory people could not be broken. He allowed himself to follow their whims and shady movements, standing with them as they committed terrible acts. The further they fell, the further he fell into his own folly. He took no responsibility for his own actions, though this would eventually catch up to him. After one of his close associates killed a man, he was abandoned by them, left to take the fall. As guards chased him, he returned to his wife and children as though nothing was amiss. Confusion, then a blinding rage overtook him when his spouse pleaded with him to be what he promised her he was. He refused to acknowledge her begging, and was told that he could no longer be with her. Unwilling to reflect on the pleads of his spouse, he began to envision who it could have been responsible for the despair he felt.   Wandering alone, he began to connect the dots. His enemy, the architect of his suffering was none other than the Vampire who ruled over sea and sky. His soul was split asunder, part snatched into the domain of the Vampire, and the other half with him, yearning to be free from this curse. He has faded into darkness, hiding from the light for fear that the Vampire will see his actions against him. So he wanders the city streets at night, and hides within taverns. He bravely calls curses on his mortal foe, the monster that has taken everything from him. He waits, knowing that one day the world will remember his greatness. One day he will become whole.
