History
Cordisite is perceived to be a sign of wealth, and indicative of the Blood flow to the veins of a specific area. A higher concentration of Cordisite is said to draw more flow from the Heart, resulting in a higher level of prosperity. However, this is nothing but a myth. Though high levels of Cordisite in an area are a sign of significant Vein efficiency, having wealth in this area of industry does not actually attract Blood.
Everyday use
Cordisite is not used for any truly practical reason; however, most countries have Cordisite vaults throughout their country; specifically concentrated in wealthier or better-funded regions. In ceremonies of any kind, Cordisite is present. But besides ceremonial use, Cordisite is of little practical application.
Cultural Significance and Usage
Cordisite is of significant cultural significance. Traditional Valoren weddings bands are almost always carved with some form of Cordisite in them, and jewelry also often integrates this material. In ceremonies, there is often a birdcage of sorts with a heavily refined and stylized Cordisite crystal within; for those of the wealthy class, it is often fixed with an illusion to make it appear as though it is floating. For some cultures, there is a specific coming tradition dedicated entirely to Cordisite. It often consists of a child, at the age of 12, becoming suited to wearing Cordisite. After this, there is some variation of a Cordisite-studded circlet being worn for the next 12 days (12 is a very superstitious number in many of Valoren's culture).
Refinement
The material is kept in its found state when it is stored in vaults, but for jewelry and ceremony it is often refined with carving and polishing to enhance its natural beauty and splendor.
Hazards
In a fine dust form, when inhaled, Cordisite can initiate a sort of narcotic effect. As a generally prevalent material, some individuals will intentionally snort Cordisite for the fiery sensation. Because it is derived from the Heart of Valoren, the very life source of Valoren, it leads to a very powerful high and is one of the most common illicit drugs. However, this comes with side effects of increased heart rate (and heart failure) and permanent psych impact.
Distribution
Storage
For Cordisite to be kept in its natural state, its storage vaults are kept at a slightly elevated temperature and higher temperature to mimic that of its ideal conditions deep in Valoren (unlike Earth and other planets, Valoren does not change exponentially in conditions between the core and the surface). Unrefined, non-ceremonial Cordesite is kept in ornate storage facilities speckled throughout an area.
