It is the most beautiful thing in Valoren. It is the most terrifying thing in Valoren. But what makes the difference is the combination... Right, professor?
Now a seldom-used term, replaced with the more popular Aetherveined , Aethervein is the title of the actual genetic quality that is present in the Aetherveined. It was once something dangerous - those who had 'caught Aethervein' would curse themselves and their family line. But now, it has graduated to become a symbol of immense power and strength.
Speculation over Causes
This category has experienced a drastic shift through the migration of the Aetherfae to Valoren. Initially, it was something to be feared; it was often considered to be a curse of the supernatural, or a sign of internal damage. However, now, it is often regarded to be a gift - quite the opposite of the initial interpretation.
Hereditary-ish
While Aethervein is qualified as a hereditary condition, that is not strictly true. It is always a hereditary condition, but it is not present in every individual in a single bloodline. This, while technically fairly sensible, breeds conflict in Aetherveined families; the less powerful, or even powerless members are viewed as Commonblooded. Disappointments, at best.
This stereotype has also led to Faeries - children, even - being regarded as useless, and nothing but walpaper, since their families discover their 'failure'. Many cases have been documented in which these familial members have been turned to servants, even disowned.

Greater Terms
Now, the Aetherfae prefer to be known as Aetherveined. This, while seemingly trivial, is a crucial detail to them - it was formerly a common saying to 'catch Aethervein', or something similar, portraying being an Aetherfaerie as something of a disease. As the Fae fled their home planet, they added the 'ed', saying that it changed the perspective into making them a community.
