Physical Description

General Physical Condition

As a mortal, Valor was tall and muscular, with wide shoulders and wide hips. It is said that she could pick up a horse or throw a man over a wall. Even the earliest paintings of her are from shortly after Raithsfall, and they vary considerably in the details--her hair, notably, is a different color and style in each one--but they all show piercing eyes, a square jaw, and a body built for combat and hard labor.

Apparel & Accessories

Some depictions of Valor show wearing high-class fashion, but mostly she is shown in armor, and writings from those who knew her agree that she rarely took it off. When she did (to certain artist's dismay) she dressed in plain work clothes, even as her influence and reputation grew.

Personal history

It is said that Valor was born to a slave in Raitharis. Her strength was recognized early on, and she was sold to Raithar's army. As a young woman, however, she defected. Not in the dead of night, not while she was away from her platoon, but in the middle of battle. Tearing off her Raitharan banner, she turned, slew her commander, and joined the rebel charge.

From then on, she was a vital force of the rebellion. At the time she joined, it was still expected to be a mere spark of discontent, easily snuffed out—she proved that wrong, leading her forces to victory after victory through a combination of shrewd tactics, insider knowledge of the Raitharan army's habits and resources, and sheer determination.

She quickly became known across the empire: fearless and indominable both in battle and outside of it. At Raithsfall, she faced a full-sized wardragon. It had been downed by ballista shots through its wings, but it took all her might to finally fell the beast for good. Though victorious, she was mortally wounded. As the embers of the battle died down, she called together the full leadership of the rebellion. She told them that it was time to decide their future, admonished them not to sew any seeds they would not wish to reap, and perished where she stood.

Instead of falling, however, she appeared at first to have caught fire. The light grew until it engulfed her, and she was gone.

Education

The only education Valor ever received was in war—but that she learned very well. She devoured everything she could learn of combat and of tactics, and she put all of her knowledge to use.
