Lightning Rail

The Lightning Rail is a vast improvement upon older Aether-fueled, steam powered rail transit. An Aetherdynamo optimized for Drain Power holds within it a Lightning Elemental. This Elemental energizes a line a magnodes that run along the bottom of the train. When powered, the magnodes on the bottom of the train form a link with the magnodes upon the train tracks, manifesting as a tether of arcing lightning. To thrust the train forward, the magnodes on the train link to the next magnode on the track, whilst the rear-most magnode on the train releases its link. This magnetized tug upon the train accelerates rapidly, propelling the train forward and at incredible speeds. The action of this magnetic propulsion can be set to reverse, decelerating and braking the train as needed.
The Lightning Rail is one of the fastest modes of transport available, second only to the Skylance, which travels slightly faster, and can disregard terrain. The Lightning Rail is limited by infrastructure, requiring a functioning railway to travel. Its advantage of the Skylance is that is can transport a much higher weight of passengers and goods, making it far more efficient once the infrastructure is built.
