Hone Ability
Once per day, you may spend 1 hour utilizing your chosen Gaming Set. Upon doing so, choose the most appropriate ability that the Gaming Set would hone. A game of Dragon Chess is likely to hone your Intelligence, whilst Dice are most likely to hone your Dexterity. Playing Cards could hone Dexterity if practicing card tricks, or Charisma if bluffing whilst playing poker. After honing the chosen ability, once during the next 24 hours, you may add 1d4 to an ability check of the chosen type.
Gambling
Gambling is a high risk, high reward activity, and dangerously addictive towards its practitioners. A thorough gambling session requires the right environment, and at least a few hours of time, often done during downtime or as part of a Long Rest. When doing so, the DM determines the Stakes available to player, who then chooses which Stakes (of the ones available) they wish to play at. The player chooses how much gold (up to the limit of the Stakes available) they intend to gamble. Finally, they choose what gambling strategy they wish to employ: aggressive, moderate, or safe.
- Aggressive: 100% profit on success, 100% loss on failure.
- Moderate: 50% profit on success, 50% loss on failure.
- Safe: 25% profit on success, 25% loss on failure.
The more aggressive the strategy, the higher risk and higher reward, and the higher the required check DC is. The player then makes a check using their Gaming Set, against the Check DC determined by the chosen Stakes, and the gambling strategy (in consultation with the table below). The gambling strategy chosen grants a profit or loss of the original gold invested equal to the percent determined by the strategy.
