Wilds of Barovia 05/08/2023

Ireena and Ismark housed the party one more night before the voyage to Vallaki. The party slept in all parts of the location. Some drunk off their liquor and the elves only trancing for a while until they started their early days.     - Evander is looking at the logs of the Burgomaster realizing how well he tried to take care of the place, checking the population once a month, trying to support families that didn't have food or well sheltered areas. He would try to advocate for peace in the land but without the help of Donavich the priest, it was difficult to even talk to the people of the village. No one wanted to go to a church with a vampire in there. Ireena shared some words with Evander because she could not sleep. Admiring the man he was and hopes she can take on the mantle after the Devil Strahd forgets about her. At least, she hopes he will.
  • - Lukas made breakfast for all
  • - Keyeth goes looking for Fine silverware to turn into dust for a spell. Ismark helps him.
The party leaves the house and head for the road. The town is still desolate except for an individual quickly rushing into a tall, thin house with boarded up windows. They get their intersection, ready to split to head towards Vallaki and they see the figure in a coat again, pulling their wagon down the road the opposite way. Ireena and Ismark don't bat an eye and continue to the edge of town. Ireena promises, " I will come back when everything is better. When I am stronger. Hang on a little longer. " Ismark mutters under his breath, "No, you won't see this place again."   At the edge of town, you can see the difference in the fogs density. Back in town, you can see a light mist over the buildings but, when walking out into the valley, the fog is thicker. Nothing lay in sight except the overgrown patches over the sand road. The party start their formation. In order from first to last, Evander, Guthrie, Andros, Ismark and Ireena, Lukas, Megan and Keyeth.    They walk through the mist and see human forms scurrying on all fours, sniffing the air and laughing like a lunatic. He walked along the road with another human and 8 Twig blights. They ask the party if they affiliate with Strahd and they answer that they don't but were invited to his castle. They, reluctantly let the party pass. The party passes without a fight.    4 hours later, a skeletal rider holding a torch gallops out of the fog and heeds a warning to the party that souls do not rest in this land. It was cursed to try luring souls to a more restful location but none can truely escape. It warned no one is welcome to Castle Ravenloft, then rides off towards the Village of Barovia.    At this point, the party has been traveling for 8 hours and decides to rest. They build a fire and made food before eating. The thunderclouds came back and were trying to disturb the peace. Keyeth took the first watch and saw 6 zombies approaching. Turning the undead worked on 4 and 2 continued walking towards the sleeping party. Keyeth woke the rest, to hack down 2 who didn't heed the warning.    Everyone was groggy and went back to rest except Keyeth and also Guthrie. 3 hrs later, another hairy disturbance came out of the woods. 6 dire wolves caught their sent and were patrolling. The party quickly got up and fought off the wolves, 5 fled and 1 died by the blade of Evander. Dawn broke. Instead of sleeping more, they decided to continue to Vallaki.   Exhausted, they walked through the woods and finally hit a opening towards the afternoon. After walking some time, they come across a lone grave that has had its tombstone clawed where the scribe should have been. Some members pray for the deceased and continue on the path. In the opening, they see a lone windmill creeking about 3 miles away. The party continue on the road and notice there is only a break in the mist for the windmill.    3 hours of walking the windy path of the valley, they hear the howls again. This time, they are coming from the location opposite of the windmill and an orchestra of wolves, deafening, even from afar. The party runs to the windmill and barely make it. All of them cram into this windmill and see a small hand-led wagon, with a cloak hung up and a lady brewing in a huge cauldron.
