Character Classes and Subclasses

There are a total of 14 character classes for you choose for your character, and your class will largely dictate what your character is capable of and excels at. Below I've written a brief overview of what each class does, as well as links for each class and subclass. I've also put in some character references to help you understand the class and even generate ideas.  

Artificer

Artificers are the magical engineers of the world, capable of using magic and crafting magical equipment for themselves and their party. Artificers are usually intelligent and resourceful, creating arcane devices from whatever they can find. Artificer subclasses specify the kinds of magical equipment they specialize in, such as alchemy, battle armour, and even a mechanical companion.   Examples:

Barbarian

Barbarians are powerful warriors able to enter a rageful battle trance and wreak destruction on their opponents. They are usually tanks and front liners, rushing ahead of their allies into the fight and drawing the attacks of their enemies away from their allies. Barbarian subclasses give a sense of focus to a barbarian's rage, usually defining the source of their power and strength.   Examples:

Bard

Bards are inspiring magicians who channel their abilities through creative methods, usually music and the arts. They are charismatic and charming individuals who use their magic to support and bolster their allies. Bards are jack-of-all-trades, capable of fitting whatever role the party needs. Their subclasses focus on which talents the bard excels at.   Examples:

Blood Hunter

Blood Hunters are monster hunters who have bound their essence to darker creatures to better help them hunt their prey. They are arcane warriors who use blood magic and sacrifice their own vitality and humanity to achieve their goals. Blood Hunters need to be tough and resilient to help them endure the trials they must pass to protect the world. Blood Hunter subclasses specify where they draw their power from and how they channel it.   Examples:

Cleric

Clerics are holy warriors, usually devout priests of the gods who have gifted them divine magic. They are usually wise and perceptive, searching for evidence of their gods' will and the means to achieve it. Clerics use their magic to support and heal their allies, though they are also competent warriors. Cleric subclasses allow them to choose a domain, usually connected to whatever god they worship, and this outlines the kind of magic their deity provides them.   Examples:

Druid

Druids wield the powers of nature, able to manipulate elemental forces and even shapeshift into beasts. They are wise and powerful caretakers of nature who seek to maintain the natural balance of the world. Druids are powerful spellcasters and also capable healers. Druid subclasses specify which part of nature they draw power from.   Examples:
  • Maui - Moana
  • Poison Ivy - DC
  • Radagast - Lord of the Rings

Fighter

Fighters are masters of combat, skilled in all kinds of melee and ranged weapons. They are warriors in the truest sense and are able to be shaped into whatever type of combat role you want to play. They are resilient and tough characters that shield their allies and strike down their enemies. Fighter subclasses are related to the styles of combat a fighter specializes in and the tactics they use in combat.   Examples:

Monk

Monks are masters of martial arts who harness the full power of their body in pursuit of physical and spiritual perfection. In addition to their physical abilities, monks can also use ki to empower their movements and attacks, moving and striking with blinding speed. Monks are wise and agile warriors who . Monk subclasses are the types of disciplines they follow and specify the way they use their ki.   Examples:

Paladin

Paladins are holy knights sworn to protect the innocent and fight the forces of evil. All paladins swear an oath that they follow, and in exchange they are granted divine magic to aid them in their goals. Paladins are skilled warriors and are able to channel magic into their strikes to empower their blows. Paladin subclasses are the oaths that they swear and the magic they receive.   Examples:

Ranger

Rangers are skilled hunters, warriors who dwell in the wilds to refine their skills to hunt down their enemies. Thanks to their familiarity with the wilds, rangers acquire the ability to cast spells that harness nature’s power, much as a druid does. Their spells, like their combat abilities, emphasize speed, stealth, and the hunt. Ranger subclasses focus their abilities to aid them against their prey of choice.   Examples:

Rogue

Rogues are skilled experts who use their cunning and trickery to overcome obstacles. They are often deceptive and stealthy, preferring sneaky methods over brute strength. Rogue subclasses specify the kind of profession and skills they excel at.   Examples:
  • Bilbo Baggins - The Hobbit
  • Captain Jack Sparrow - Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Catwoman - DC

Sorcerer

Sorcerers are spellcasters that were born with their magical abilities due to a magical bloodline. This inner source of magic makes sorcerers powerful magic users, and they learn to manipulate their inherent magic and shape it in ways not possible for normal spellcasters. They use their magic to rain down destruction on their enemies. Sorcerer subclasses reveal the origins of their magic bloodline and the abilities they inherit.   Examples:
  • Elsa - Frozen
  • Mutants - X-Men
  • Scarlet Witch - MCU

Warlock

Warlocks are not ordinary spellcasters. They have entered into a pact with a powerful, otherworldly being, and in exchange for their services they are given magic by their patron. The abilities of warlocks vary between individuals, depending on the nature of their pact. They make powerful spellcasters but are also capable fighters. Warlock subclasses are related to the type of being the warlock has sworn loyalty to, and the type of magic their patron provides.   Examples:
  • Dr. Facilier - Princess and the Frog
  • Ghost Rider - Marvel
  • Moon Knight - Marvel

Wizard

Wizards are studious spellcasters, people who have studied the arcane and learn to manipulate the forces that make up existence. Unlike other spellcasters, there is no limit to the amount of spells a wizard can learn, they can keep increasing their knowledge and strengthen their magic. However, they are not resilient, and wizards tend to attack enemies from a distance and use their magic to control the battlefield. Wizard subclasses specify the school of magic a wizard seeks to master.   Examples:
