Maldgrim
The entity which calls itself Maldgrim is a sentient magical helmet, normally appearing as a grand helm adorned with flaring wings, a gem set upon its crest, and arcane runes carved into its steel exterior. Maldgrim can magically change the size, shape, and adornment of its helmet physiology to suit a humanoid wearer and alter its appearance
Maldgrim's origin is a mystery, and it is currently unknown how his mind came to reside in a helmet, or if he has always been a helmet. If his stories are true, he is at least several hundred years old as he claims to have seen both the first and second Wormborn Plagues. In Maldgrim's encounter with Maeldun, the strange woman insinuated that she had seen drawings of the legendary hero Cyuli wearing a helmet that looked much like Maldgrim's form. Maldgrim also claims he has spent most of the last century in the treasure hoard of the dragon Scalding Rain. Maldgrim hinted that he may have had something to do with Scalding Rain's delusions and has also encountered the mysterious woman known as Skald.
Maldgrim has demonstrated the ability to cast spells, including speaking telepathically to others, conjuring a small spectral hand to carry him about when not worn by a bearer, and a concentrated fire spell to attack and defend to name a few.
Pretentious, condescending, and perhaps a touch devious, Maldgrim's personality has initially made the Storm Eaters reserve their full trust in their strange new companion. Maldgrim has been quite interested in acquiring a "body" to wear him.
In Hafrsted, Maldgrim left the company of the Storm Eaters, as he felt he was not brave enough to join them in their dangerous quest to work with the Lodge Eldritch and end the Third Wormborn Plague. He disappeared into the hustle and bustle of the market, leaving his companions with a telepathic farewell speech, rather than face them and discuss his departure. Would this be the last the Storm Eaters see of the mysterious and powerful wizard entombed in an enchanted helm?
