Mak Morn
Mak Morn was a Grey Ears warband leader tasked with defending his tribal lands from the influx of refugees from the north, namely the People of the Bear. Although he is an unlearned savage through and through, he is viciously cunning and tricky. Mak Morn lives for blood and glory and has weaknesses for sex and alcohol. In addition to his sharp sword, Mak Morn possesses a strange orb of obsidian which he never lets out of his grasp. Mak Morn claims his father slayed a mysterious wild elf long ago to acquire the orb and then passed it onto him. Mak Morn says that his orb contains a dark spirit which he can send forth to see beyond what eyes can see. In truth, the orb in an ancient elven relic called an Ebon Eye, created during the height of Aelvalla for the purpose of magically spying on rivals. Using the Ebon Eye comes with a cost, as it requires a bit of the user's pain and blood to call forth the spirit.
Mak Morn's warband was defeated by a band of adventurers in the wilds west of the Slidvood. Mak Morn bartered for his life (and the lives of what remained of his small warband) by surrendering his necklace of ears to the elf Salbei. Following his shameful defeat and the loss of his ear trophies, Mak Morn returned in shame to his tribe where he was ostracized as a coward. This shame, coupled with the death of his mate (also at the hands of Salbei and her companions), caused Mak Morn to spiral into depression and suicidal thoughts as he drank and fucked himself into oblivion at the Thing as an outcast.
When Mak Morn crossed paths with Salbei at The Thing he challenged her to a duel to reclaim his honor, knowing full well he never could and that he truly only longed for death. In a surprising twist of events Salbei convinced Mak Morn to join her rather than fight her, promising him purpose, blood, and glory. Mak Morn and Salbei made a pact sealed in blood at the Red Shallows not far from The Thing, swearing their loyalty to each other. Mak Morn is now a man seemingly without fear or shame, hellbent on "burning the world" at Salbei's side as he claws every scrap of glory and blood that he can on his way to a death he still longs for.
Mak Morn aided Salbei and her companions in slaying the Frue's Wyrm at The Thing, and the epic deed inspired a traveling skald (a lesser-known teller of tales on the Windbend Wastes called Kodee the Brown) to compose "The Song of Mak Morn"
No one cuts like Mak Morn, No one screams like Mak Morn, No one's orb's as incredibly slick as Mak Morn's.
For there's no man in town half as scrappy
Rapid, a dog's paragon
You can ask any Stone, Ves or Salbei
And they'll tell you whose team they prefer to be on...
Mak Morn traded his precious Ebon Eye for a night of sin with Vespilynn, knowing that he was most likely going to have to surrender the Eye to the wild elves, and wanted to get something in exchange for this loss.
