Brorian Stranglevine

The Brorian Stranglevine inhabits the jungles and swamps of Broria, a region in the northwest of Valeron. This insidious creature is perfectly evolved to blend in with the vegetation that makes up its habitat. Despite it actually being an animal, to the uninformed or careless observer, it can easily pass for one of the trees that densely populate the region.    When the Stranglevine is in its infancy, it moves about the underbrush scuttling on eight appendages that bear resemblance both to spiders legs and to the roots of trees. It uses these legs to subdue small prey items such as rodents or unwary small birds and force them into a cavity that leads directly into the Stranglevine's stomach. Upon finding a suitable location, the juvenile predator will plant those appendages in the ground and assume its camouflage as a tree. The Stranglevine will then rapidly grow and develop limbs that bear visual and textural resemblance to vines. These vines act as feelers that rest on the underbrush to detect vibrations in the underbrush that alert the creature to incoming prey items. When prey comes within reach, the vines quickly lash themselves around the neck of their victim and attempt to choke them into unconsciousness while dragging them towards the trunk. Once the victim is subdued, the Stranglevine will reveal its mouth cavity which by this point will have a ring of needle-like teeth around the entrance. These teeth will inject a paralytic toxin into the victim before they are moved into the stomach for digestion.   The Stranglevine prefers larger, meatier prey, but it is far from unheard of for a human who wandered too far from his settlement to become a victim of a Stranglevine. As such, these creatures are often destroyed on sight. Although it is considered best practice to avoid them in the first place.
