Valemyr

The world of Valemyr is one of magic, intrigue, history, and conflict. It is populated by all manner of fantastical creatures and people.   Though many people in Valemyr don't know it, the planet's history is much longer than recorded history would suggest. Almost 1000 years ago, there was an infernal calamity that brought the people of Valemyr to their knees. Despite wielding powerful magic & machinery, they could do little to stop the fiends that invaded their world. Legends state that it was only through the intervention of the gods that life on Valemyr survived. Though almost all knowledge from before the Calamity was lost, people were able to rebuild, unaware of the fallen civilizations whose ruins now littered their world.
What little knowledge they had was only what could be gleaned from stories, and what mysterious discoveries lay in crumbling ruins and hidden vaults.   With the dawn of the 16th century, and to a lesser degree the centuries leading up to it, things began to change. Some inhabitants of Valemyr took more notice of these ruins and their secrets. Technology long left to rust and rot was excavated, with various nations working to repair and rebuild what had been found, or to use this ancient tech to develop & improve their own inventions. Most importantly of all though, many of the people of Valemyr took interest in their forgotten past, and they began piecing together what knowledge they held & what could be discovered, all in order to get a true understanding of the people that once lived on Valemyr, and what had happened truly to them.
