The Five Sisters

Across Valakadyn, five mountains stretch towards the skies higher than all others. Each one standing no less than four miles high at their peak, they tower over the landscape. Created in cataclysmic magical events, they are the physical manifestation of the Weave fracturing across the mortal plane. Considered holy sites by the Grand Reserve, they are forbidden to most mortals. The Weave grows unstable around the sisters, tying itself into knots. During the several years leading up to the solstice of Alecto, the leylines around the planet become visible, with the largest clusters and crossroads locating themselves over each of the enormous mountains. Made of pure Aetheric minerals that are nearly impossible to mine, the mountains themselves channel Aether passively, like massive magical batteries. A powerful enough mage could theoretically use the mountains as a conduit for incredible magic, at the cost of potentially destroying the world. The materials extractable from these immense structures are ideal for enchanting, as they absorb Aether with almost no loss.

Norður, The First Sister

Otherwise known as The Great Mountain or The First Sister, Norður is the place where the Twin Creator gods, Vaka and Mystra, entered the material plane of Valakadyn. The untouched world, reacting to their presence, reaches up to greet them, creating Norður. At the very peak of the mountain lies Creator's Rest, a temple to the creator goddesses, and a magical viewing plane that allows you to see any location on Valakadyn. The highest point on the material plane, it's peak reaches nearly seven miles high.

Material Properties - Norðium

Primary Effect: Aetheric Stem Cells
This material is magically neutral, pure. It is able to channel Aether with nearly one-hundred percent efficiency. One square foot of this material could replace the material components needed in the casting of any spell. Instruments created from this material could theoretically deflect, absorb, or redirect spells cast into it.
Secondary Effect: Absolute Zero
Due to the conditions in which the mountain exists, the materials extracted from it hold cold and force magic especially well.

Eldhress, The Second Sister

The second of the great mountains created by bursts in the Weave, Eldhress was birthed by the death and destruction of Freyja, Forebearer of Mortality. Killed by The Betrayers in an ambush as she travelled through the deserts of Adar, her violent retaliation and subsequent demise ripped a hole in the fabric of the Weave. Her death created Eldhress; a fiery mass of lava and smoke that can be seen all across the Adaran Desert.

Material Properties - Eldhressine

Primary Effect: Obsidian
This material is more fragile than the other mountainous minerals, but is capable of being filed down to an incredibly sharp edge. Weapons created with this material deal more damage than usual, but can be destroyed more easily than a standard metal.
Secondary Effect: Melting Point
The material extracted from Eldhress holds fire and radiant magic especially well.

Kaz'ad, The Third Sister

Created by Thrivas Foxgard, Fifth Oracle of Battle. In the original timeline, it was created in his desperation to defeat the World Serpent, Jormungandr. In order to break Hel's curse on the Barrens, he and Mara Magnolia, First Oracle of Souls intentionally caused a Wild Magic Event, successfully destroying Jormungandr, and themselves, in the process. The resulting Aether blast flash froze into a dark mountain, an entire city pre-carved into its interior by Thrivas' last wish. In the current timeline, the city and mountain were created by Thrivas and Mara at the instruction of Karnatis Seradz, The Oracle of Time in order to keep the timeline whole. Successful, the two of them lived long lives after giving up their Oracular abilities, with Thrivas becoming the first ruler of Kaz'ad and establishing his vast bloodline across Valakadyn, while Mara lived a quiet life on the beaches of the Sundered Isles.

Material Properties - Kaz'adite

Primary Effect: Adamantine Strength
Kaz'adite is nearly unbreakable and incredibly heavy. It is also magically dense, and has a resistance to exterior magical effects. Items made out of this material give additional protection (physical and magical), but weigh more than standard items.
Secondary Effect: Death Flag
The material extracted from Kaz'ad holds necrotic and psychic damage especially well.

Graena, The Fourth Sister

At the height of the Karavala Sovereignty's power, during Myrthos Karavala, Fourth Oracle of Gravity's reign of terror, the continent of Gleyari was torn apart by war. Gods fought gods, Oracles fought each other, and mortals found themselves caught in the crossfire. In the year 1500AS, during the Alectan Solstice, the final conflict of the War of the Gods was fought: the Battle of Sunfall. After a lengthy battle, Toshinori Yagi, Seventh Oracle of Peace sacrificed himself in order to destroy Myrthos and Óðr, Sunscourge aka Gil, destroying their rule over Gleyari. In the wake of their defeat, an Artifact of Vaka was destroyed, and the mountain of Graena was born.

Material Properties - Graenium

Primary Effect: Prismatic
This mineral was created in a confluence of dozens of different magical abilities, allowing it to adapt to whichever magic it is exposed to. The effect is increased when used by an Immortal. Items made from this material may allow their wielders to siphon Aether from the Weave more efficiently.
Secondary Effect: Poisoned Well
The material extracted from Graena holds poison and acid magic especially well.

Dauðagaldur, The Fifth Sister

The newest of the Five Sisters, Dauðagaldur was created at the conclusion of the Battle of Newbiggin. As the Team of Many Things clashed with the remnants of the Betrayers, Thor's death at the hands of Klein Orsini, The Usurper and Oracle of Blood caused a rupture in the Weave. This was then further exacerbated by Mystra, God of Magic arriving to attempt to claim the The Artifacts of Vaka. As the Artifacts rejected her and she attempted to kill the Team of Many Things, Gil, The Radiant sacrificed himself in order to destroy Mystra's form and save his friends. This resulted in the complete destruction of the Weave around what was previously Newbiggin, and the creation of the second largest mountain on Valakadyn.

Material Properties - Dauðanate

Primary Effect: Antimatter
This material rejects all Aether, allowing it to absorb and dispel magic. This mineral is magically invisible, making it an effective material for anti-scrying measures and other manners of Aetherial protection. Cannot be enchanted by anything other than thunder or lightning magic.
Secondary Effect: Blood of the Thunder God
The material extracted from Dauðagaldur holds thunder and lightning magic especially well.
