Staff of Vaka - Awakened
“We stand on the precipice of change. The world fears the inevitable plummet into the abyss. Watch for that moment, and when it comes do not hesitate to leap. For it is when we fall, we learn whether we can fly.” - Unknown
Originally wielded by Josephine Silverhand, First Oracle of Nature after the death of Vaka. Used by Josephine to revive the destroyed woodlands of Valakadyn by creating Nimloth, The Root of All Trees. Ultimately stolen from Nimloth by Oðr, Sunscourge and used in the battle of Sunfall that ultimately led to him being fused with the Staff. Discovered years later by the ranger Hjallborn Darroch, he used it as he and the Team of Many Things attempted to reunite the Artifacts of Vaka and revive the Goddess. During the Battle of Newbiggin, as the party was nearly killed by Mystra, Gil sacrificed himself to save the Team and their allies, destroying the Staff and the entire city of Newbiggin in the process. Several years after the Aetherscourge began, the Staff was rediscovered within the core of Nimloth. Hjallborn claimed it once again, but all traces of it's former inhabitant are gone.
Awakened - Staff of the Dark Phoenix
After reaching zero hit points, the staff explodes in a fireball. Stuck in the ground in it's place is a staff of dark, almost black metal. The base transforms from the tree roots into a sharp point. The ring at the top now resembles a large open semi-circle. Perched atop is a large Phoenix that takes the place of the Cardinal. The Phoenix gains his memories back, but may or may not reveal this depending on his relationship with Hjallbörn. While attuned, this staff may be used as an arcane focus, granting a +2 on attack and damage rolls. The Phoenix
This staff is a sentient staff controlled by the DM, with 1000 HP. The staff takes all damage the user does while equipped. The staff naturally heals 1d6/round which it shares with the user. While attuned, both the staff and the wielder are resistant to fire damage and radiant damage. Once The Phoenix drops to zero hit points, the staff explodes in a large fireball that deals 20d20 damage in a 300ft radius, spell sculpted to protect the user an up to 10 allies of The Phoenix's choice. Current HP: 1000.""Emotionally Volatile""
When the user is affected by fire or radiant damage, or if the user takes more than 30 damage in a single hit, the Staff surges in retaliation. Roll a d10 on the Fuck You Table as the listed effect takes hold. When the user or the staff are affected by strong emotions, such as during combat (or at player/DM discretion), the Staff will surge with magical energy. Roll a d20 on the Emotional Surge Table as the listed effect takes hold.Blessing of the Phoenix
