High Magic
In the time before Spell Laws when magic abounded unimpeded, an advanced school of magic coalesced from various wizards, sorcerers, and other magicians. This school is the School of High Magic.
The High School incorporated all the other schools, which were divided into schools at this time, above a certain level. When the High Wardens divided the spells into a hierarchy, some were seen as ultimately powerful, and ultimately pricey.
Tier 1 — 10th-Level
There's always a cost to magic, and the ones at the first tier required a little more than their 9th-level cousins. These spells could raise whole hill, or flatten an small village. These were not all more powerful versions of common spells; some of these spells could affect the outer planes themselves, altering bits of them to the caster's will.Tier 2 — 11th-Level
The price of power steps up with the 11th-level spells. Spells that could affect those in the past or future, influencing their minds or thoughts. Spells that pierce the veils of the cosmos to travel to virtually any plane. The cost, however, is almost never justified if one has a queasy conscience. The price of human life to cast these spells deterred many from continuing.Tier 3 — 12th-Level
Power that rivals deities held in the hand of a mere mortal. This tier of spells kindled bitterness in the hearts and souls of the deities, and drove Pelagalep, the Mistress of Magic, to consider their banning. These spells could completely transform a land from brutal badlands to a life-spring, or the other way around. Hardly any scholars of High Magic got past this tier.Tier 4 — 13th-Level
Practically considered the final tier. Not many spells of this level were discovered before The Binding. For a brief moment, diviners knew the mind of the deities and could even gently influence them. They foresaw the coming and sought to keep their Spark, to not become Adrift. Breaking the will of the deities on a whim caused Pelagalep to bind magic to the lower tiers.Tier 5 — 14th-Level
This tier only exists to house one spell, a deity-creating spells that causes the caster untold sorrow and to lose a piece of themselves. Thousands of thousands of pure, innocent souls must willingly give themselves up to promote the caster to the level of deity. It was only cast once, and that forgotten creature fell deep into the Abyss, never to be seen again.
