Pirate's Code

The Pirate's Code is an informal set of laws that the majority of Lydian pirates swear to, lest they become cast out by the greater society. Only the most extreme violations of the Pirate's Code are taken under consideration by either Ianassa Achaeus (head of the Awful Deep) or Nadine Arioso (the current Buccaneer Regnant).
I. Finder's Keepers   If property is found unclaimed, the finder of the property is permitted to claim it for themselves without consequence. If property is taken while claimed, the individual who lost the property can choose to retaliate in a manner befitting of the stolen property.   II. Eye for an Eye   If an individual is physically slighted, the wronged individual is allowed to retaliate in a manner befitting of the physical slight. When an individual is killed by another, those closest to that individual have carte blanche to seek equivalent revenge upon the killer.   III. Respect of Status   Those who swear to the Pirate's Code are forbidden from targeting on basis of race, faith, sexual orientation, gender presentation, or disability. Class and caste are not protected statuses underneath the Pirate's Code.   IV. Prevention of Debtors   Formal debt contracts that hold legal ramifications beyond the City of Pirates are to be ignored. Any who attempt to extort, extradite, or enslave based on accrued or defaulted credit beyond the bounds of Port Lydia shall be put to death.   V. Have Fun   To swear to the Pirate's Code is to dream of a free world; to live life to the fullest. If an individual intrudes on freedom to enjoy life, they are to be ridiculed and humiliated.
