Personal history
Morpheus Phorcys Torrentum was born on the outskirts of Zonaius in 1598 to a tiefling mother and a half-elven father, three years after his sister Iris. From the get-go, he displayed a knack for arcane talent, and his parents scrounged up what little money they had to send him to The Academy of Ancient Studies in Misty Run, where he would proceed to major in Enchantment.
However, it wasn't all coming up roses in the capital. At the end of Morpheus' second year studying at the institution, he came across an extremely dangerous incantation deep within the bowels of the school library. It was written in the back of a dilapidated book that likely hadn't seen use in centuries, but he nonetheless copied it into his spellbook for later use.
Just before final exams, he witnessed a tenured professor making harmful advances towards one of his classmates. He lost the levelheadedness he normally possessed and cast the spell upon the professor - what he didn't know was that the spell was Feeblemind, which is what the Watchers used on whom the Gorecrest Dynasty deemed to be the most dangerous to their regime. The professor effectively became a husk of a person, and Morpheus was swiftly expelled from the Academy and taken in by the government for questioning.
Somehow, Morpheus managed to talk his way out of imprisonment. He then opened a magic shop in Misty Run that did quite well, so he decided to open stores in the capitals of all four provinces - Oakenward, Zonaius, Athewell, and Irieham. It was at his store in Irieham that he met The Stonebounders, becoming one of their most trusted and powerful allies in the process.
After the Stonebounders had killed The Erlkönig with the assistance of both Morpheus and Thomas Pennington, he was deemed the Modern Master of Enchantment for this feat. Being titled with Master opens every career door imaginable in Uthilith, and is now the tenured department chair of Enchantment at the Academy of Ancient Studies. Morpheus has also served as guest faculty at every major magical institution in the world, including the Chaelwyth Institute of Arcane Arts and Sciences, Hresvelg Institute of Technology, and the Avena Monastery. His treatises on magical ethics have shaped the contemporary wizarding world.
