Firbolg (fur-bowlg)
Firbolgs, along with Humans and Halflings are one of the only pre-Genesis races to cross the Portal of Creation in their (mostly) unaltered Exandrian form. They are among the longest-lived of the Humanoids, with a vanishingly small population.
Basic Information
Anatomy
As firbolgs are descended from Exandrian Giants, they are creatures that are quite a bit larger than the average humanoid (between 2-3 feet and about 100 pounds heavier). Their bodies are covered in a layer of fur that can range in shade from light gray to a deep navy, and their facial features generally read as bovine. Their body types are on the stockier side - a mixture of fat and muscle meant for utility, not aesthetic.
Genetics and Reproduction
The gestation period of a firbolg is quite long. A typical firbolg mother will carry her children for anywhere between sixteen and eighteen months, and a typical brood consists of two to three firbolg calves.
Growth Rate & Stages
- Infancy - 0-5 years
- Childhood - 5-20 years
- Adolescence - 20-80 years
Ecology and Habitats
Aside from a few very particular individuals, the entire firbolg population lives in the village of Tarnstead - the only settlement on the Forgotten Continent. They are integrated into the environment - a deciduous forest at the base of the Syndra Mountains - in a way unrivalled by even the Fey in Twinvale.
Behaviour
By many, firbolgs are considered to be myth simply due to how rare they are and how secluded their population is from the rest of the world. Rural human communities (mainly in Tempora, as the only known firbolg figures live there) tell stories of the fabled 'cow-giant'.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Firbolgs are highly perceptive creatures, and make fantastic navigators, scouts, and guides. They are able to communicate rudimentary ideas with flora and fauna (though unable to understand them in return), and are easily capable of convincing nature to aid their goals.
