Personal history
Had an idyllic childhood, surrounded by a tight knit community; she spent her days working in the community garden, attending school, where she excelled, and spent her evenings playing on the village’s mushroomball team. She met her wife, Hyacinth Flavicollis on her team, where they developed a close friendship and later a deeply devoted love for each other. They married at 19, and lived a happy life in a modest, but comfortable home, where they were preparing to raise children. Her life was perfect, as far as she was concerned. That all changed when the chicken nation attacked. In a matter of hours, Helga became one of a very small number of survivors of Meadowgard. As she held a dying, badly burnt Hyacinth, she promised to avenge her death and made a vow to do her best to keep her alive in any way possible. She has mostly fulfilled that promise metaphorically by living in a way that honors Hyacinth’s rebellious, but deeply moral spirit. Secretly, almost too secretly for Helga to admit to herself, she wants to find a way to reincarnate her literally.

The emu, and she carries deep shame for all the times she has strayed from her promise to herself and Hyacinth to never inflict the pain she has experienced on others. Is often deeply embarrassed that she survived when many of those she considered much better than her did not.
Much to her embarrassment in her childhood, her family called her ‘scrambler’ for her propensity for climbing.

She believes there is no morality attached to physical things, but that all life has deep dignity. However, she considers birds of all sorts to be fundamentally corrupt and out to get her and so feels little remorse at killing or harming them. To her, their existence constitutes a threat to her very being, and so any attack she perceives as a matter of self defense.
