Drowned

Structure

The highest ranking member of the Drowned is called the herald. It is said that the herald speaks to The Envoy directly. All Drowned cultists obey their commands without any question. The high priests are those who have been personally selected by the herald to receive the Envoy's blessing. It's rumored that the high priests are former pirate captains that have been allowed to come back to life, as long as they serve the Drowned's patron. Most of the members of this organization are priests, who tend to the temple and rarely move around the island of Stormshore.

Culture

The Drowned have no memory of who they were in life, but are devoted to spending their unlife in service to the Envoy. They believe that a great beast will rise from the depths of the ocean to swallow the island of Stormshore, and their patron deity has come to save them. To help the Envoy achieve his purpose of saving the island, they follow the order of the herald, even though they usually don't know how their commands help reach this goal. Questioning the commands of high ranking members the organization is considered an offense to the Envoy himself. Drowned cultists who find themselves losing faith might lose their deity's favor and return to being dead.

The goal of the Drowned is to follow the order of the Envoy, which will prevent the island of Stormshore.

History

The cult of the Drowned was present on Stormshore when the first sailors arrived there in 641 AT. When questioned about their history with the island, the members claimed that they had been on the island for anywhere between 5 to 50 years. When asked about their lives before they became servants of the Envoy, they said they did not remember any of it. The only exception to this was the mysterious herald, who refused to reveal his actual name, who told the sailors that he had been born on the island and lived there is entire life.
