The Sandsquall Diviners

Chasers of the desert scirocco. Aiding both good and bad populations.

The deserts of Geganna are known for their intense, localised sandstorms, particularly in areas with strong magical or planar influences. These storms are a blight on locals, particularly travellers, but can be a boon for bandits preparing to work under the cover of the chaos.

A small sect of cultists has formed around these storms: the Sandsquall Diviners. These pseudo-worshippers, usually humans and dune elves, attempt to predict and even control when these storms will occur. This puts them in high demand in both civilised and lawless societies.

Structure

There is no de facto leader of the Diviners. Instead, it is a loose-knit organisation with respected elders. Three elders congregated together have the authority to administer a test to bring someone to their own rank but there is little else in the way of official rituals.

Culture

The Diviners respect the force of sandstorms and the cleansing nature of their passage. They are usually dressed in minimal garb and are heavily scarred - it is a rite of passage to survive a sandstorm naked.

When a member dies, they are usually given a sky burial in the belief that their bones will be cleaned by the scouring winds.

Many Diviners are also worshippers of gods of Tempest. These beliefs complement rather than interfere with the organisation as a whole.

Public Agenda

Without a large number of members, each individual persues their own interests, only coming together under the authority of an elder. Most will find a place to settle down, where their skills are desired. Those who join civilised society aid the locals in predicting and avoiding storms, particulary during long journeys. Alternatively, they may fall in with bandits, particularly to the north of Geganna, where they assist in using storms as cover for ambushes and raids.

A few diviners, particularly elders, prefer isolation and travel the deserts for extended periods of time.
