Jars of Fire and Ice
Two crude clay jars. One contains fire that never goes out, the other holds frost that never warms.
One each. The twins scurried to opposite sides of their abode without a word. At their behest, fire blazed and rime crystalised. They could do good work with these tools.
These two jars, containing the mote of everburning fire and the mote of everfreezing ice respectively, appear clumsily made, unvarnished and lumpy. Their opening is roughly two inches across and is sealed with a thick cork. While not uncomfortable or harmful, one jar is warm to the touch, the other is cold.
The motes within the jars may be removed and thrown to either create an area of flames or ice, or to encompass a creature or object. They appear to be able to do this endlessly, but require time to renew if they come in contact with their opposite.
The jars were found in the possession of a pair of mute sea hags known simply as the Twins. They were being used to sink ships, the fire continuing to burn even when submerged.

Mote of Everburning Fire
Wondrous Item
Rare Fire
This small clay jar contains a tiny sphere of white-orange energy.
As an action, you may remove the mote from the jar and throw it at any target you can see within 30 feet. If this target is a creature, it may make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw to avoid the mote, being struck by it on a failure. Upon striking, the mote spreads magical fire to encompass the target, up to a maximum of a 10-foot cube if it strikes a particularly large object or a surface. If the target avoids the mote, it vanishes and reappears in the jar 1 minute later.
Creatures and objects take 1d6 fire damage when struck in this way; the first time they touch the flames during their turn; or if they start their turn either encompassed by or within the area of the flames.
The magical flames produced by this jar burn indefinitely and are not extinguished by any natural method such as water or lack of air. If an effect that would cause cold damage overlaps the burning space or strikes a burning target, the flames disappear and do not return to the jar until dawn. If the flames make contact with the magical cold produced by the mote of everfreezing ice, both effects disappear and do not return to their respective jars until a week has passed.
The flames may be returned to the jar at any time by the creature currently in possession of it.

Rare Cold
This small clay jar contains a tiny sphere of white-blue energy.
As an action, you may remove the mote from the jar and throw it at any target you can see within 30 feet. If this target is a creature, it may make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw to avoid the mote, being struck by it on a failure. If the target avoids the mote, it vanishes and reappears in the jar 1 minute later.
Creatures and objects take 1d4 cold damage when struck in this way; the first time they touch the frost during their turn; or if they start their turn either encompassed by or within the area of the frost. A creature who has taken cold damage from this effect has its movement speed halved until the start of its next turn.
The magical frost produced by this jar lasts indefinitely and is not diminished by natural environmental factors. If an effect that would cause fire damage overlaps the chilled space or strikes a frozen target, the frost disappears and does not return to the jar until dawn. If the frost makes contact with the magical fire produced by the mote of everburning fire, both effects disappear and do not return to their respective jars until a week has passed.
The frost may be returned to the jar at any time by the creature currently in possession of it.
