Flicking through the pages, the hunched figure searches for the name of a suitable mark. A low-ranking demon is identified, one she hopes will relinquish power without meaningful cost. The next ten minutes are spent plotting out a summoning circle.
This leather-bound book has a dark aura about it. Its pages are filled with sprawling text in both Abyssal and Infernal - information on all denizens of the lower planes. It grants its bearer the ability to understand these languages innately and offers a number of other benefits to those willing to get involved with darker powers. Most notably, it allows someone without any innate magical ability to summon and communicate with fiends from any of the lower planes.
The index of fiends was found in the basement of Auntie Serah, a night hag who had spent years acting as the head of staffing for the Argentis silver mine.

Forbidden Knowledge. While attuned to this book, you can read and speak Abyssal and Infernal. In addition, you have advantage on Intelligence (Arcana) and Intelligence (Religion) checks that pertain to the lower planes and Fiends.
Fiendish Allies. While attuned to this book, you may use it to cast the spell planar ally. This casting of planar ally may only be used to make contact with a Fiend and, if you do not know the name of a being you wish to summon, you may specify which lower plane the Fiend resides on. The creature summoned by planar ally is under no obligation to follow your commands but will be cordial to diplomacy. Once used in this way, this property may not be used again until a week has passed.
Lower Planes Sojourn. While attuned to this book, you may use it to cast the spell plane shift. This casting of plane shift may only be used to travel to one of the lower planes. Once used in this way, this property may not be used again until a month has passed. This property of the book does not give you a way to return from the destination you choose. An unwilling target may make a DC 14 Charisma saving through to avoid being banished to a lower plane.
Evil Aura. While attuned to this book, you appear to be of evil alignment to any observers with abilities to detect such information. You are not, however, affected by spells and abilities that specifically target evil creatures, unless you were already of evil alignment before attuning to the book.
This messy, leatherbound book appears to be full of mismatched pages in different styles of handwriting. It contains a wealth of knowledge about the lower planes and their denizens. The cover sometimes feels warm to the touch.
