The True Face of Chaos

With the dawn of humanity completed, scholars of all the free peoples have recently begun to investigate whether legends of a singular corrupting and evil presence found within legends and tales of sentient races may all refer to the same being.   Elder metallic dragons have all individually testified to an elusive presence shortly after the formal break in relations between chromatic and metallic dragonflights. They describe the presence as shrouded, ancient, and otherworldly.   Elves state that throughout their history a particularly charismatic but socially deviant Elf named Xjeet rose to power among the Sulien who encouraged studies into darker forms of magic involving brutality and ritual sacrifice. He was eventually convicted of crimes against the Elven State and sentenced to exile, though reports of his continued presence within their borders persisted. Dwarves echoed this sentiment, naming an errant Dwarven deity named Khoar who ascended from the ranks of lower-class clans and was cast down after sowing discord among peoples (which was later confirmed as absolute fact by Gnomish recordkeeping). Authorities in Volkarde, Quetzon, and Sabia in addition to reports from every major city indicate cults dedicated to a god named Phazu have been discovered in various capacities. Phazu seemed to encourage the same beliefs and practices of Xjeet and Khoar: Chaos, Deception, and Corruption. Quetzoni priestesses in particular have offered evidence that early Hassythian religious rites mention a high priest named Pazuz who closely matched known depictions of Phazu.   To each race, the physical description was always the same. The being was considered fair to behold, but neither masculine nor feminine. They were incredibly charismatic and it was impossible to discern truth from illusion in their words. Their presence is both captivating and mystifying.   Although it is speculative, most sentient races conclude that Phazu/Khoar/Xjeet or any similar manifestation are the same being: a God of Chaos, Deception, Poison, and Corruption who is not originally of this world.
