Ergalar the Betrayer
His Greatness Ergas D'Alar Fisher, Ser (a.k.a. The Black, The Betrayer, The Fallen)
Ergalar is the current ruler of the blighted lands of Terrefore, in the country formerly known as Everdale.
He rose to power in 1632 after conquering the existing ruling theocrats. Originally, he was a Paladin of Alar sent to investigate and eliminate the cause of viral necromantic magic that was afflicting towns and villages, killing the population and raising them as undead. The request for help was issued directly from the ruling body which was a council of clergy devoted to Alar. Over course of his investigation, he learned that the blight was originally created by the head of the clergy in a misbegotten attempt at immortality. Disgusted by this revelation, Ergalar slaughtered the council and assumed lordship over the land, instituting martial law as he purged the existing ruling infrastructure of all loyalists to the clergy.
Re-naming the land as Duskendale, Ergalar has imposed a despotic rule over the remainder of the population, outlawing all religion and devoting all resources to discovering a method of reversing the undead affliction. Any who fall to the disease are quarantined in massive holding pens, for he refuses to execute any if there is even a sliver of hope for their cure (no matter how far the affliction has decayed their bodies). Criminals and trespassers within the country are harshly punished, and often used as test subjects for potential cures.
In his final moments before his fall into an Oathbreaker, Ergalar renounced and cursed Alar for allowing these atrocities to be committed by those who pledged their faith to Alar. He now pledges fealty to Asmodeus, supreme tyrant of the Hells, as his patron of order.
