His mother was a simple woman who could not offer him the knowledge and power that he really desired. He made a pact with a fiend when he was fairly young in pursuit of this goal. Being pulled into the Mundane world left him with nothing. He allied himself with Quall because he knows power when he sees it. Perhaps he can learn something from the Illthid.
