Varofian Republic

The Varofian Republic is a young aristocratic republic, established in 852 following the overthrow of the Varoselumite monarchy. The revolution was conducted primarily by a coalition of nobles and merchants, and thus the new regime exists in a precarious balance of power between the aristocracy and the common folk. Two co-consuls are elected to lead the country for four-year terms by its senate, which is split between hereditary aristocratic seats, and elected commoner seats. There is an unspoken assumption that one consul will always be a noble, while the other will always be a commoner, though it is unknown if this balance of power will last in the long-term.
