The Shadowfell
Also knows as the Plane of Shadows and the Shroud, the Shadowfell is an Inner Plane and one of the two mirror dimensions of the Prime Material Plane. According to Teghneist teaching, it is also one of the three Solaric Planes, with the other two being the Feywild, and Mechanus. It consists of shadowy mirrors of locations on the Material Plane, as well as vast stretches of nothing but mist-shrouded, impossibly dark ground. Few beings live in the Shadowfell, with the two most notable exceptions being the Sorrowsworn and the Shrouded Ones.
Geography
As a mirror dimension, the Shadowfell contains many dark reflections of locations on the Prime Material Plane. A noble's keep may be reflected as a dilapidated ruin, infested with monstrous beings, while a village may appear to have been burned to the ground in a raid that it survived on the Material Plane. There are also vast stretches of open ground, which scholars believe may reflect oceans, and possibly the void of space. Like the Feywild, the Shadowfell does not align with the geography of the Material Plane, and a reflection of a town near Agrinon may appear directly adjacent to a Sou'elian library.
Many beings, mainly Shrouded Ones, control demesnes within the Shadowfell. These areas are effectively demiplanes, and their creators wield near-absolute power within them. A Shrouded One can reshape their demesne at will by drawing on the mysterious power of the Shroud, but their realms are always dark and uncomfortable to mortals due to their presence within the Plane of Shadows.
History
According to Teghneist teaching, the Shadowfell was created alongside Mechanus and the Feywild, prior to the beginning of time. The nameless Solars that would later become the First Demons conspired to create a plane greater than the Prime Material, and thus prove themselves greater than Teghne. For their arrogance, they were stripped of their celestial powers and authority, and cast into the Abyss by Rudrel.
As this occurred, they lashed out against Primus and Enor as they created their respective planes. The Feywild was tainted by their strike, but Mechanus was unaffected due to its rigidly lawful nature. Primus, Enor, and Rudrel then worked together to create impenetrable seals on the Abyss. It is said that two Maruts ceaselessly guard the celestial power that was stripped from the First Demons on the Shadowfell. The Shadowfell continued to exist, though only as a shadow of its intended majesty.
