The Lolthite Hegemony

The Lolthite Hegemony is the largest known state in the Underdark, and is ruled by the matriarchal Priesthood of Lolth. Its population consists primarily of Drow, though slaves from other races such as Quaggoths and Svirfneblin making up a substantial portion of the population. Lolthite society is characterised by ambition, treachery, and cruelty, traits that are encouraged by Lolth and her priestesses. Devotion to any faith or Shrouded One other than Lolth is punishable by death; even followers of Ilune, who possesses similar characteristics to Lolth, are persecuted.
The Drow Empire controls the Underdark beneath the Inmarium Ocean and northern Colossia, and possesses outposts in and beneath the Dusklands. They were pushed out of the Underdark beneath Sennorr in 921 following an uprising of Quaggoths that was supported by the Duergar and a band of adventurers from Havenfort. The Hegemony is often at odds with the Duergar, as well as followers of Ilune and followers of Naemeri. The Teghneist Order of Lirwan has many agents within the Drow Empire, who seek to undermine its stability and help slaves and penitent drow escape from Lolthite territory.
